Accordion+electric guitar+apparatuses = Sound-art-pop-mash-up-duo
Having played together in MTQ for a number of years, the brilliant rock-guitarist Mikkel Sørensen and I decided to glue together our two instruments with a number of electronic machines. The resulting duo, Stormglas, has a tendency to mix all sorts of genres in our quest to follow one exclusive credo: Everything is allowed in order to achieve the strongest possible musical expression.
Stormglas’ first official project took place in the summer of 2012 in Denmark and Sweden, world premiering a new choreography by the highly praised choreographer Tim Rushton with the Danish Dance Theatre.
Our latest project was called ÅRSTIDERNE (Danish for ‘the seasons’).
It started as an acoustic project that explored the four seasons from a musical perspective: Bringing together one of music history’s most popular season-interpretations, Astor Piazzolla’s ‘Quatro Estaciones Porteñas’ with four new commissioned Nordic seasons, we examine the relation between the different pieces and their significance to a modern, environmentally concerned audience.
After touring the nordic countries as a concert project, ÅRSTIDERNE joined forces with Finnish artist Hans Rosenström and CHART Art Fair to create the installation piece OFF SEASONS as well as an album release of the contemporary seasons.
Involved artists are: Andreas Borregaard (DK, acc), Jon Mehus (NO, vln), Mikkel Sørensen (DK, el.gtr), Peter Friis Johansson (SE, pno), Julius Pyrhönen (FI, db), Sunleif Rasmussen (FOE, comp), Fredrik Österling (SE, comp), Rasmus Zwicki (DK, comp) and Martin Bauck (NO, comp), Hans Rosenström (visual artist).
